HISTORY
Innovation built on a solid foundation.
Spotts, Stevens and McCoy traces its history back to 1932 when Walter E. Spotts, PE opened an engineering and surveying practice in Reading, Pennsylvania.
In 1967 Lewis J. McCoy, Sr., PE opened an individual engineering practice in Wyomissing Pennsylvania. Mr. McCoy opened this office after 10 years of experience in environmental engineering with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and a large multi-discipline consulting firm.
A year later he brought in a new partner with experience in industrial HVAC, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering: Charles H. Stevens, PE, CIH. In 1969 the business was incorporated as Stevens and McCoy, Inc.
Stevens and McCoy, Inc. acquired Spotts Engineering Associates, Inc., engineers and surveyors, in 1970 and the firm of Spotts, Stevens ad McCoy, Inc. was born. The new company combined Stevens and McCoy, Inc. and the nearly 40 years of Walter Spotts and his staff of 30.
Over the years, growth was accommodated by periodic expansions, moves to larger facilities, and acquisitions. As our technology, expertise and reputation grew, so did the geographic demand for our services – from the region to the state, throughout the United States, and international.
Blending second-generation entrepreneurial thinking with traditional values.
Today, Spotts, Stevens and McCoy is a multi-disciplined engineering and consulting firm with offices in Reading, Lehigh Valley, Lancaster, and West Chester, Pennsylvania. Our firm continues to be run by McCoy family members. Brian R. Kelly and Patrick M. McCoy, PE. guide our staff, as well as our company-wide commitments to professional integrity, cutting-edge technology, environmental responsibility and client relationships.
